How Much Does Website Design Cost in Dallas? (Honest 2026 Pricing Guide)

If you have asked three Dallas web designers for a quote on the same project, you have probably seen three very different numbers. One came back at $2,500. One came back at $9,000. One came back at $28,000 and included a discovery phase you did not know you needed.

None of them is necessarily wrong. They are quoting different things.

How much does website design cost in Dallas? This guide explains what website design actually costs for a Dallas business in 2026, what separates one tier from the next, and how to work out whether the proposal sitting in your inbox is fair. It covers the whole range honestly, including the parts where spending less is the right decision.

If you want the wider view that is not specific to Dallas, our complete guide to small business website costs goes deeper on platforms, industries and long-term returns. This page stays focused on what changes when you are buying in the Dallas market.

The Short Answer: How Much Does Website Design Cost in Dallas?

Here is the range most Dallas businesses land in, by the kind of build they are actually buying.

What you are buyingTypical costBest suited to
DIY website builder$0 to $500 per yearTesting an idea, a temporary landing page, a business with no lead-generation goal yet
Freelance designer$2,000 to $6,000A clear, well-defined brief you can direct yourself
Professional agency site$5,000 to $15,000Service businesses that expect the site to generate inquiries
Ecommerce or complex build$8,000 to $25,000 and upOnline stores, booking systems, CRM or ERP integrations
Ongoing support$500 to $2,000 per monthMaintenance, hosting, content and SEO after launch

Most Dallas service businesses that treat the website as a lead source, rather than as a brochure, end up in the $5,000 to $15,000 band. That is the range where you stop paying for a template and start paying for strategy, custom design, proper technical build and the testing that goes with it.

Two things worth saying plainly before the detail.

The cheapest option is sometimes the correct option. If you are pre-revenue, validating an idea, or running a business that gets all of its work through referral, a $400 builder site is a rational purchase. Spending $12,000 to look credible to an audience that never visits your website is not a good investment. It is just a more expensive way to be invisible.

The most expensive option is rarely about design. Once a quote passes roughly $25,000, you are usually paying for integrations, custom functionality, content production at volume, or a multi-stakeholder approval process. You are not paying for a prettier homepage.

Why Two Dallas Quotes for the Same Brief Can Differ by $20,000

The brief you send out is almost never the brief that gets quoted. Each agency fills in the gaps with its own assumptions, and those assumptions are where the money goes.

  • Design approach. A customized template is a different product from a design built around your business. Templates are faster and cheaper and there is nothing wrong with them, but they constrain what you can say and how you can say it. A fully custom design costs more because someone has to make hundreds of decisions that a template already made for you.
  • Page count and content. A five-page site and a thirty-page site are not the same job, and the gap is bigger than it looks. Content is usually the hidden cost. If nobody has agreed who is writing the copy, that ambiguity is sitting in the quote somewhere, or it is about to become a delay.
  • Strategy and research. Some quotes include competitor analysis, customer research and a conversion plan before anyone opens a design tool. Others start at the design. That difference alone can account for several thousand dollars, and it is the single most common reason two quotes are not comparable.
  • Functionality. Booking, payments, member logins, CRM connections, quoting tools and customer portals each add real development time. A quote that includes “integrations” without naming them is not a quote yet.
  • Who is doing the work. A team with a designer, a developer, a copywriter and a project manager costs more per hour than one person doing all four jobs. Whether that is worth it depends entirely on how much your site has to carry.

If you want to see what the higher end of that range produces, our web design portfolio shows completed projects across service industries.

Who is Quoting You, and What That Changes

Dallas has a deep supply of web design talent, from solo freelancers through boutique studios to large agencies with enterprise clients. On top of that, remote work has made geography much less relevant than it was five years ago. A Dallas business today is realistically choosing from local studios and from specialist agencies anywhere in North America.

That is a genuine advantage, and it is worth using deliberately rather than by accident.

Freelance Designers

Typical range: $2,000 to $6,000.

A good freelancer is of excellent value when you know precisely what you want. You are buying execution, not direction. The risk is capacity: one person means one point of failure for illness, holidays and competing clients, and it usually means one skill set doing work that really needs three.

Ask what happens if the project runs long, and ask who maintains the site afterwards.

Local Dallas Studios

Local studios offer proximity, which matters more for some businesses than others. If your project needs frequent in-person workshops, photography of your premises, or close coordination with an internal marketing team, being in the same city has real value.

If your project does not need those things, proximity is a preference rather than a benefit, and it should not be the deciding factor.

Specialist Agencies, Local or Remote

Typical range: $5,000 to $15,000 for a service business site, more for ecommerce or complex builds.

Specialists are chosen for what they have built before rather than where they sit. If an agency has delivered ten sites in your industry, it has already solved problems your project has not hit yet. That experience is usually the difference between a site that looks finished and a site that works.

This is the tier most Dallas businesses should be comparing if the website is expected to generate inquiries. It is also where you should expect to be asked harder questions during the sales process, which is a good sign rather than a bad one.

If you are still building a shortlist, we maintain roundups of website design agencies in Dallas, web developers in Dallas and WordPress development agencies in Dallas.

DIY Website Builders

Typical range: $0 to $500 per year.

Builders have improved enormously and they are a legitimate starting point. The limits show up later, usually around performance, structured SEO and anything genuinely custom. We compared the trade-offs in detail in our guide to custom websites versus Squarespace.

The honest summary: a builder is a good first website and a poor fifth one.

What About B2B and Industrial Businesses?

Dallas-Fort Worth has a large base of B2B companies, manufacturers, distributors and professional services firms, and their websites work differently from a consumer-facing site.

The buying cycle is longer. Several people are involved. The website is rarely where the deal closes, but it is almost always where a prospect decides whether you are worth a conversation. That changes what the site has to do: less emphasis on immediate conversion, more on proof, specificity and making technical information easy to navigate.

In practice, B2B sites tend to sit at the upper end of the ranges above rather than in a separate category. The extra cost comes from content depth, not from design complexity. Case studies, specification detail, technical documentation and multiple audience paths all take time to produce, and most of that time is writing and structuring rather than designing.

If you are a B2B business, the question to ask an agency is not “what does a website cost.” It is “how will you make our expertise legible to someone who is not an expert.” The answer tells you whether the quote is realistic.

The Costs That Are Not in the Quote

The build price is the part everyone compares. The running costs are the part that surprises people.

  • Hosting and domain: roughly $200 to $600 per year for business-grade hosting. Cheap shared hosting is a false economy on a site that matters, because performance affects both conversion and search visibility.
  • Maintenance and security. Platforms, plugins and integrations need updating. Skipping this is how sites break, and how they get compromised. Some agencies include a maintenance plan, some sell it separately, and some leave it to you. Find out which before you sign.
  • Content and SEO after launch: $500 to $2,000 per month is a common range for ongoing work. A website is not a finished object. The businesses that get returns from theirs are the ones that keep publishing and keep improving.
  • The rebuild you did not plan for. This is the biggest hidden cost of all. A site bought cheaply because the budget was tight often gets replaced within two or three years, which means paying twice and losing the search equity built in between. We covered the pattern, and the warning signs, in our piece on website mistakes home service companies make.

How to Tell Whether Your Quote is Fair

Price on its own tells you very little. These five questions tell you far more.

  1. What exactly is included, itemised? A fair proposal separates strategy, design, development, content and testing. A single number with no breakdown is not a proposal, it is a guess, and you cannot compare it to anything.
  2. Who owns the website when it is finished? You should own the domain, the hosting account, the content and the site itself. If leaving your agency means losing your website, the price is not the real cost.
  3. What happens after launch? Ask about the warranty period, what counts as a bug rather than a change, and what ongoing support costs. Getting this in writing before you sign is much easier than negotiating it afterwards.
  4. Can they show you comparable work? Not just a portfolio, but projects with a similar scope and a similar type of buyer. Ask what the goal was and whether it was met.
  5. What is the plan if the site does not perform? Good agencies have an answer. It usually involves measurement, iteration and a defined review point. An agency that treats launch as the finish line is selling you a brochure.

If you want a benchmark for the questions worth asking, our frequently asked questions page covers process, timelines and what a typical engagement includes.

So What Should a Dallas Business Actually Budget?

A practical way to think about it, without pretending your situation is generic:

If the website is a credibility check and your work comes from referral and reputation, a well-built smaller site is the right call. Aim for the lower end of the professional range, keep the scope tight, and spend the difference on the things that do bring you work.

If the website is a lead source, budget properly for it. The $5,000 to $15,000 range exists because that is what strategy, custom design, a solid technical build and real testing cost when done by a team. Underfunding this is the most expensive decision in the whole process.

If the website is the business, in the sense that it takes orders, bookings or applications, treat it as infrastructure rather than marketing. Expect $8,000 to $25,000 and up, expect a longer timeline, and expect ongoing investment after launch.

The number that matters is not the quote. It is what the site returns. A $4,000 website that generates nothing is expensive. A $14,000 website that consistently brings you the right inquiries pays for itself, and then keeps paying.

Frequently Asked Questions

Most Dallas businesses pay between $5,000 and $15,000 for a professionally built website. Freelancers typically range from $2,000 to $6,000, DIY builders cost $0 to $500 per year, and ecommerce or complex builds start around $8,000 and go up from there depending on functionality.

Because they are usually quoting different scopes. Design approach, page count, who writes the content, whether strategy and research are included, and what functionality is being built all change the number substantially. Ask every agency for an itemised breakdown and the quotes become comparable.

Not necessarily. Local agencies are worth it if your project needs in-person workshops, on-site photography or close coordination with an internal team. If it does not, relevant industry experience matters more than proximity. Choose on what an agency has built, not on where it sits.

A small template-based site can be live in two to four weeks. A custom professional site typically takes six to twelve weeks, depending on how quickly content and feedback come back. Rushed timelines usually cost more and produce worse results, because the compression comes out of strategy and testing.

Budget roughly $200 to $600 per year for hosting and domain, plus maintenance and security updates. If you want the site to keep growing through search and content, ongoing work commonly runs $500 to $2,000 per month. A website left untouched loses ground.

Getting a Quote You Can Actually Compare

The most useful thing you can do before contacting anyone is write down what the website has to achieve. Not what it should look like. What it has to do.

An agency that understands the goal can tell you what it costs to reach it, and can tell you honestly when your budget and your goal do not match. That conversation is worth more than any pricing guide, including this one.
